Since I was six years old, I have been Greek Dancing and performing. I grew up playing in traditional Greek bands and have performed all over America and Greece with some of the best known Greek teachers and performers including Agis Tsakalakos, known all over Athens for his dancing. He has performed in Cyprus, Turkey, Italy, Morocco, Egypt, Germany, Sweden, Hungary, Austria and more, including a performance for Ecumenical Patriach Bartholomew. Closing Ceremonies of the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004
Dances I teach include:
Kalamatianos: The Kalamatianos is a lively and energetic dance that comes from the town of Kalamata in the southern Peloponnese. It is usually performed in a circular formation, and dancers often hold hands or place their arms on each other's shoulders. The dance involves quick footwork and lively music.
Zeibekiko: Zeibekiko is a solo dance that is characterized by its improvisational nature. Dancers perform the Zeibekiko on their own, expressing their emotions and creativity through movements. The dance is often accompanied by slow, soulful music.
Tsamiko: The Tsamiko is a popular Greek dance that originated in the regions of Epirus and Thessaly. It is a slow and dignified dance often performed at weddings and other celebrations. Dancers typically form a line or a circle and move gracefully while holding hands or placing their hands on each other's shoulders.
Hasapiko: Also known as the "Butcher's Dance." It is a fast-paced, energetic dance often performed at Greek celebrations and festivals. Hasapiko is often danced in a straight line, with intricate footwork and leg movements.
